Results of ecological footprint quiz recorded April 14, 2007, “Step it up 2007”

Print outs of the ecological footprint quiz from the web site of www.earthday.net were filled out by visitors to an exhibit at Lafayette Village, New Jersey. Copies were made by the exhibitors and used to calculate the results below using the calculating function of the web site quiz. The procedure was explained to the visitors as follows:

Footprint form and spruce sapling

If you complete this 15 question form and place a 2 digit number in the right upper corner of the first page and allow us to make a copy you will receive a norway spruce sapling to plant in your yard where it will take in and store some carbon dioxide, the most abundant earth warming green house gas.

We all know we consume more of the resources of the earth than the citizens of most other countries. Learning your personal score in this respect will show you where you need to try to improve. Calculating the averages for all who complete the form today will do the same for the community.

The copy we make will be entered into the www.earthday.net web site ecological footprint quiz and give your personal results as calculated by the web site. You should not provide your name!! You will learn your results, (which will be posted by april 19), by logging on to www.uunewtonnj.org and then clicking green sanctuary on the menu. Look for results next to the number you provided above.

The first column shows the identification number you chose. The second and third columns give the results on the page called “quiz results” in the left upper corner.
The number 46 for total footprint is an example, your result is in column 2. In the same way, the number of planets is an example, your result is in column 3.
The results in the last 3 columns are for the last 2 pages, labeled “take action” to show how fulfilling your goals in reducing your consumption in food, mobility and housing respectively, would reduce the acres required to support your life style. The use of “acre” is as an equivalent for a certain amount of energy. NA stands for items which were not completed on the form.
